Botanical Mandala

An audio visual installation designed to help patients relax before operations and achieve a meditative state of mind.

Commissioned by rb&hArts on behalf of Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, Botanical Mandala is an installation for the Theatre Reception at Harefield. This is where patients wait just before they go in for surgery, so we wanted to transform the environment into a calming and peaceful space, and reduce patient’s anxiety.
The installation was developed consulting with patients and staff, gathering their feedback to make changes along the way. The final artwork – a kaleidoscopic projection of medicinal flowers slowly spreading across the wall, accompanied by the sound of birdsong – was warmly and enthusiastically received by both patients and hospital staff.
