Living Portraits & Recycled Silent Movie – Hat Fair

Digital portraits and films celebrating the lives of older residents in Winchester and Corby.

SDNA were commissioned by the Hat Fair to create a series of digital portraits exploring the life experiences and memories of older people living in the UK and present realistic, positive images of older people on film. In collaboration with Winchester School of Art, SDNA led a series of workshops on documentary film making and mentored groups of students throughout the process of filming and interviewing older participants.

Living Portraits was a key strand of Hat Fair’s Celebrating Age programme of intergenerational arts activities engaging younger and older participants in Winchester and Corby, and was exhibited at the Woolly Hat Fair in 2017 and the Hat Fair and Grow Festival in 2018.
SDNA also collaborated with writer Richard Hurford and musician Jonathan Best to produce Recycled Silent Movie – a film combining older people’s living memories of the local area with original archival footage from Hampshire Records Office.
