Threads of Light
Threads of Light was an immersive installation that transformed Sutton Central Library into a luminous celebration of culture, community and shared experience. Blending moving image, light and sound, the artwork drew inspiration from festivals around the world that celebrate light and explored light as a symbol of hope, connection and cultural identity.
At the heart of the project was a close collaboration with local communities, who took part in a series of creative workshops using light painting, cyanotype and collage to share their own stories and cultural perspectives. These contributions were then digitised and animated, forming a collective visual language that flowed throughout the installation.
The soundscape, created in collaboration with Orphy Robinson MBE, layered music and voices from local residents in multiple languages with electronic beats, creating an intimate atmosphere.
Presented during the festive season, Threads of Light offered audiences a space to pause and reflect, an invitation to connect with the stories, traditions and people that shape Sutton.
